Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) set out the conditions for using the Baba Biyori app and the website bababiyori.com (together, the “Service”). The Service is provided by the operator named in section 14 (“we”, “us”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. The Service

Baba Biyori is an app where you visit Grandma, who lives in a house in the countryside. She spends her day following the clock on your device. You can talk to her, touch her, and give her gifts.

Grandma, Grandpa and the other people and animals in the Service are fictional characters and are not related to any real person.

We may add, change, or end features and content of the Service.

2. Who can use the Service

The Service is for people aged 13 or older (16 or older in the European Economic Area where the law requires it). If you are a minor where you live, please use the Service, and buy any paid gifts, only with the consent of a parent or guardian.

3. Your account

You use the Service with an account, which you can create with Sign in with Apple (iPhone), Continue with Google, or your email address and a one-time code. No password is used.

Please keep the means of signing in to your account (your Apple Account, Google Account, or email account) secure. If you think someone else has used your account, contact us right away.

4. Talking with Grandma (AI replies)

Grandma answers with words we have prepared. When she has nothing prepared for what you say, the AI on your device (Apple Intelligence on a supported iPhone) may write a reply in her way of speaking.

• AI replies are generated automatically on the spot and may not be accurate. They may contain things that are not true or phrasing we did not intend.
• Nothing Grandma says is professional advice about health, law, money, mental health, or anything else. For important decisions, please consult a professional or a reliable source.
• The Service is not a counselling or diagnostic service. If your life is in danger or you need help now, please contact your local emergency services.

5. Gifts for Grandma (paid items)

The Service is free to use. From “A gift for Grandma” (under “Support Baba Biyori”) in the app, you can buy items such as dorayaki, accessories and clothes for Grandma (“Gifts”).

• Payment is handled by the App Store (Apple) and Google Play (Google), and their terms apply to payment. We never receive your card or other payment details.
• Prices are shown in the app before you buy. Each Gift is a one-time payment; there is no monthly charge.
• Gifts are digital items that Grandma eats or wears inside the app. They cannot be exchanged for cash or for other goods or services.
• Whether or not you give Gifts, the features you can use stay the same.
• Accessories and clothes you give are kept on your device. For now, they cannot be carried over to another device or restored. If you delete the app or change devices, they will no longer appear.
• Except where the law requires otherwise, refunds follow the procedures of Apple or Google. Please request any refund from them.
• If we end the Service, we will announce the date and how Gifts will be handled in advance, in the app or on this website.

6. What you put into the Service

What you put into the Service — the words you say to Grandma, the weather and words you leave in “Today’s mood”, the tips you add to Grandma’s bag of wisdom, and so on (“Your Content”) — belongs to you.

We handle Your Content only to provide the Service. Your moods, your words for Grandma and your bag of wisdom are kept on our servers so you can see them on a new device; what you say in a chat never leaves your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.

The Service has no feature for showing your content to other users.

7. What you must not do

• anything unlawful or against public order and morals, or likely to be;
• decompile, analyse, or modify the app or our servers, except as the law allows;
• put excessive load on the Service or disrupt it;
• try to access accounts or data that are not yours;
• copy, distribute, or sell the Service’s images, voices, music, text, etc. without permission (see section 8);
• use AI replies to deceive or harm others;
• anything else we reasonably judge inappropriate.

8. Rights

The rights in the Service — including the Baba Biyori name, characters such as Grandma, Grandpa and Tama, artwork and 3D models, recorded voices, music, text, and software — belong to us or to their rightful owners. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to enjoy the Service.

You are welcome to share screenshots personally, for example on social media. For commercial use, such as in a shop or an advertisement, please ask us first.

9. Disclaimers and liability

We do not guarantee that the Service will always work without interruption or errors, or that it will suit a particular purpose. Depending on your device, OS, or network, some features (such as AI replies or talking by voice) may not be available.

We are not liable for damage arising from the Service, except where it is caused by our intent or gross negligence. This does not apply where the Consumer Contract Act of Japan or other law does not allow such a limit. Where we are liable, our liability is limited to direct damage that would normally arise.

10. Stopping use and deleting your account

You may stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account in the app with “Delete account” at the bottom of the Me tab. Deletion cannot be undone. If you can’t use the app, see Delete your account.

If you breach these Terms, we may suspend your use of the Service, with notice (or without notice when urgent).

11. Changes to or end of the Service

We may change or end all or part of the Service. If we end it, we will announce this in the app or on this website as early as we can.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms as permitted by law. When we do, we will announce the changes and the date they take effect, before that date, on this page or in the app.

13. Governing law and courts

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute about the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction, in the first instance, of the Tokyo District Court, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country provides otherwise.
